Lego Club

Build fantastic creations or take the Lego Challenge at Ascension Parish Library’s Dutchtown Branch when the Lego Club meets at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Lego Club is open to children of all ages, with Duplo Blocks and Mega Bloks available for younger children. All materials and creations must stay at the library for future programs.

St. Joseph Altar

St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church presents its St. Joseph's Day Altar on Sunday at the church, 818 N. 10th St., Donaldsonville.

The blessing of the altar is at 10 a.m., followed by the ritual of the saints at 10:30 a.m. and feeding of the public at 11:30 a.m. All food is provided by the St. Joseph Society in honor of St. Joseph.

Total joint replacement

St. Elizabeth Hospital’s total joint replacement education class begins at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the Sister Linda conference room for anyone considering knee or hip replacement surgery.

Learn about the process of joint replacement surgery from preadmission to rehabilitation and meet the hospital’s team of health professionals.

Boys and puberty

Boys ages 10 to 12 and their dads or moms can learn about the physical and emotional changes that accompany puberty at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Sister Vernola conference room of St. Elizabeth Hospital.

Small business seminar

Ascension Parish Library is hosting a free seminar at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Dutchtown Branch for those interested in starting a small business.

A senior business consultant with the Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southern University will discuss the feasibility of business ideas and how to get a small business loan.

Bird’s-eye view

Author and local historian Mary Gehman presents her new children’s book, “Cardy the Cardinal Comes to Donaldsonville,” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ascension Parish Library’s Donaldsonville Branch.

Joining Gehman is illustrator and folk artist Alvin Batiste. The duo will talk about the creative process behind the book and the inspiration behind Batiste’s artwork. A book signing follows the discussion along with music by vocalist Desiree Nailor.


The TOPS, or Taking Off Pounds Sensibly, weight loss support group meets Thursdays at Carpenter's Chapel Church, 41181 La. 933, Prairieville. Weigh-in starts at 5 p.m. and ends when the meeting begins at 6 p.m.

‘Hidden Figures’

Ascension Parish Library is celebrating Women’s History Month with a showing of “Hidden Figures” (PG) at the Gonzales Branch at 2 p.m. March 24.

The film, based on the book of the same name by Margot Lee Shetterly, is the true story of three female African-American mathematicians who worked for NASA during the early years of the U.S. space program. The movie will be followed by a discussion led by Shelisa Theus, an assistant professor from Baton Rouge Community College.
