River Parishes Community College in Gonzales held its eighth annual Community/Health Fair for students, faculty and community members on April 22.
Area professionals from businesses, churches, social services and nonprofit organizations in the Ascension area were on hand to provide information on health, careers, nutrition, family support services, industrial trades and other learning opportunities.
Visitors also received health screenings from St. Elizabeth Hospital staffers and students in the RPCC nursing program, a news release said.
“RPCC is more than just a collection of classrooms,” said Sharon Lagarde, faculty member and organizer of the fair. “We are a center of learning, and it really is our responsibility to create a communitywide educational event. ”
Papa John’s donated pizzas for RPCC students to sell as a fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald House, the release said.
