Sorrento seniors danced and dined on gumbo and cake on Dec. 1 at the annual Sorrento Senior Citizens’ Christmas Party hosted by Mayor Wilson Longanecker Jr. at the Sorrento Lions Club hall.

Cliff Nickens provided the music for the event.

The Rev. Michael Galea of St. Anne Catholic Church in Sorrento visited with the seniors.

Longanecker honored the oldest male and female residents, Edmond “Bibbie” Lee and Hazel Villeneuve Lee. Longanecker presented gift cards to couple. The gift cards were donated by Chief of Police Earl Theriot and his wife Debra.

Longanecker also congratulated the Lees on their Dec. 16 70th wedding anniversary.

After lunch, each senior was given a wrapped gift that was paid for by donations from local businesses.

The seniors received a 2013 Sorrento Calendar created and designed by former mayor Brenda Melancon. Each month of the calendar showcases school photographs of Sorrento students from the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s.

Volunteers serving the seniors were: the Theriots, town clerk Paige Kling Robert, her husband Luke and their son and daughter; Fern Barnett, Cornelius Morris and Veronica Landry Hebert.

Each senior was given a take -home dinner of turkey, ham, rice dressing and a vegetable.
