PRAIRIEVILLE — Ascension Parish sheriff's deputies arrested a Gonzales man in the rape of a woman earlier this year after she passed out from narcotics use.
After taking the drugs one night in late February, the 27-year-old woman awoke to find that Jeremy Quindell Johnson, 36, was raping her, a sheriff's spokesman said Tuesday.
Deputies said the woman had gone with Johnson to a home in Prairieville on the night of Feb. 26 to buy illegal narcotics, got the drugs, took them and passed out.
Deputies responded about 1:50 p.m. Feb. 27 to a rape complaint from the woman at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales, a sheriff's report says.
After several months of investigation, deputies arrested Johnson, 518 E. Great Haven St., Gonzales, and booked him Friday on counts of third-degree rape, as well as other unrelated counts and a parole violation, online jail records say.
Under state law, among the reasons for third-degree rape is if intercourse occurs and the victim hasn't consented and can't resist or understand what is happening due to intoxication.
Johnson has felony drug and theft convictions from January 2015
Johnson's bail on the counts has been set at $75,000, and he remained in Ascension Parish Detention Center near Donaldsonville Wednesday, online records say.
