The Ascension Veterans Associations is taking applications for its second annual AVA scholarship program. The scholarship focuses on people accomplishing exemplary civic service and patriotic ideology.

Dependent children, grandchildren or spouses of honorably discharged veterans, current U.S. military service personnel or service personnel who were killed while serving in the military are eligible to apply. Current stepchildren or step-grandchildren of honorably discharged veterans or current U.S. military service personnel also are eligible. A separate category has been created for honorably discharged veterans.

Candidates must be a resident of Ascension Parish, or will be/are a graduate of a public or private Ascension Parish high school and must have/had at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale.

Applications must be postmarked no later than Feb. 5. A minimum of four scholarships of $1,000 each are projected to be awarded for the 2016-17 academic year. Previous applicants may reapply.

Recipients will be honored and presented certification of the scholarship at AVA’s annual Musical Tribute for Our Troops on March 4.
