Kathy Bourgeois’ art saved her more than once, the St. Amant mixed-media and fiber artist said. And after suffering a stroke, she faced the possibility of losing her ability to make art, and, therefore, her most valuable coping tool, her joy, and her life’s passion.

Bourgeois will be sharing her often funny stories of healing and her art techniques at the River Region Art Association’s monthly meeting at 4 p.m. March 20 at the Depot Gallery, 1008 W. La. 30 in Gonzales.

She also will be using her rediscovered skills in a new class for adults called Dynamic Line Designs on Canvas.

In the class, students will create original designs on canvas. No art experience is needed. The class will meet every Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., for six weeks, April 2 to May 7.

The class registration is $100 and should be paid to the River Region Art Association. All materials are provided. A supply fee of $25 will be paid to the teacher on the first day of class.

Bourgeois was born and raised in Pennsylvania, earned a bachelor’s degree in fine art from New Mexico State and settled in Baton Rouge. She was also a public school teacher for 30 years and always has enjoyed making art.
