GONZALES — A Prairieville man shot and killed a Gonzales-area man early Tuesday after an argument broke out in the 23-year-old victim's home and turned into a fight, Ascension Parish sheriff's deputies said.

Kirkpatrick Wayne Morrison and Lauren Donaldson, both of 39124 West Lane, Prairieville, were acquaintances of Christopher Goudeau.

They were at his home off Black Bayou Road near Gonzales early Tuesday when the shooting happened about 6 a.m., sheriff's deputies said in a statement.

Deputies said Morrison, 24, shot Goudeau and then fled with Donaldson but the two were caught a short time later in East Baton Rouge Parish after a crash on Highland Road.

Chief Deputy Bobby Webre said Morrison and Donaldson weren't being pursued by authorities at the time of the accident in Baton Rouge. Webre said sheriff's investigators think they first went back to their home in Prairieville after the shooting and then left for Baton Rouge for reasons still unknown.

At the scene of the slaying Tuesday, sheriff's deputies had an area two-tenths of mile east of Black Bayou marked off with police tape and had numbered markers out for potential evidence. It appeared investigators were taking casts of imprints made in the dirt near a mobile home off Black Bayou Road.

Morrison and Donaldson, 22, were arrested and each booked Tuesday on counts of first-degree murder, deputies said. Morrison was also booked on a count of aggravated assault.

The cause of the fight was not clear Tuesday.

Bail had not been set for Donaldson or Morrison as of Tuesday afternoon, deputies said. The two remained in Ascension Parish Prison near Donaldsonville.
