Fire officials are investigating a house fire that left an 82-year-old woman dead in Baker late Wednesday.
The body of Dorothy Gray was found in the living room of the burned down house in the 3200 block of Monroe Street, according to the State Fire Marshal's Office. The Baker Fire Department had responded to the scene around 6:15 p.m.
Gray was found near a sewing machine surrounded by clutter, including a thread of extension cords and power strips connected to each other, SFM spokesperson Ashley Rodrigue said. No working smoke alarms were located in the home.
Deputies believe the fire started in the living room, though the exact cause of the fire remains undetermined. Authorities have not been able to rule out electrical malfunction, Rodrigue said.
