Elijah Matthew Parker

Don't be F.A.Z.E.D. by letter

Be on the lookout for the F.A.Z.E. annual fundraising letter in your mail. Foundation Assisting Zachary Education met at the Zachary School Board office to prepare a summer mailout for Zachary residents. Students from Northwestern Middle School Junior Beta Club, Zachary High Beta Club and Zachary High Honors Society helped stuff, stamp and seal over 7,000 envelopes that will be mailed to homeowners and businesses in the Zachary community. Lunch was donated by Subway and Francis Nezianya. All of the money raised in this activity benefits Zachary schools.

Homeownership housing fair

In recognition of June as National Homeownership Month, a free Homeownership Housing Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 30 at Baker Municipal Auditorium, 3325 Groom Road. It will be a one-stop-shop resource for renters who want to buy a home, homeowners whose house needs repair or a survivor of the 2016 floods still seeking permanent housing.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Louisiana Office of Community Development, as well as other state and local government agencies, for-profit and nonprofit groups, will be on hand to answer your questions about home buying, home repair and home financing.

Benefits for young resident

Three-month-old Elijah Matthew Parker has five heart defects which require open heart surgery when he reaches 4 months. To assist with the medical expenses two benefits have been planned.

A jambalaya benefit will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Zachary United Methodist Church. Presale tickets are available for $10 each with a chance to win a $100 Visa gift card. The winner does not need to be present to win.

Also, a raffle drawing will be held live on the "Praying for Elijah Matthew Parker" Facebook page at 3 p.m. July 1. Prizes include a Yeti Hopper, massage package from Southern Select Massage Therapy and a Young Living Essential Oil beauty basket. Tickers are $20 each for a chance to win the three prizes.
