Job and education fair set for Baker

The city of Baker is partnering with major companies, schools and organizations for a Job and Education Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the Baker Municipal Center, 3325 Groom Road.

The job fair is for Baker and surrounding municipalities. High school seniors are welcome. Companies will be available for those ready for the job market and universities will have representatives for people seeking higher education opportunities.

The zoo appreciates you

BREC Baton Rouge Zoo is holding its annual City Appreciation Days in June as a way to thank East Baton Rouge Parish residents for their support. Dates are June 2 for Baker, June 9 for Baton Rouge, June 16 for Zachary and June 23 for Central.

Buy one, get one free pricing on admission will be available to visitors presenting a valid driver’s license with a household address that includes an East Baton Rouge Parish ZIP code.

Flood survey

The Restore Louisiana Task Force is reminding people who flooded in 2016 assistance is available. Make sure to fill out a survey at or (866) 735-2001 by July 20. This is the first step to aid, and if a homeowner does not fill out the survey by the deadline, they will be ineligible for aid, even if programs later expand. The deadline does not apply to homeowners who already have filled out the survey or submitted applications.

Also, meetings are being planned to help homeowners complete the survey. As of now, an event will be held June 5, at the East Baton Rouge Parish Library's Baker branch and June 17 at the Greenwell Springs branch. Both meetings are from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The meetings are subject to change, so check the website periodically.

Carwash and clothes

Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, 2911 Reames Road, Zachary, is hosting a free carwash and clothing giveaway from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

School reps deadline

Friday is the deadline for parents and students to turn in applications to the Zachary Community School Board to provide input on policies for the 2018-2019 school year. Applications can be found at and  

Church to host car show

First Baptist Church Zachary is hosting a car show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free, and lunch is available. Attendees are invited to bring lawn chairs. Dry good donations will be accepted for the Zachary Food Pantry.
