CLINTON — Early voting begins Saturday for April 6 elections to fill offices in several areas of East Feliciana Parish.

Early voting will be from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. through March 30, except on Sunday and Good Friday, at the Registrar of Voters Office, 11048 Bank St., Clinton.

In the village of Wilson, Alderwoman Eunice Smiley withdrew after qualifying for re-election, automatically electing Yvonne Allen, Georgia Honore and Harriett Sensley to serve four-year terms on the Board of Aldermen.

In the Wilson mayor’s race, however, incumbent Marilyn Broadway is challenged by former Mayor Joshua L. Thomas.

Thomas won the post in 2009, but voters recalled him from office less than a year after he took the post. He ran again for the job in November 2010, but Broadway defeated him, 177 to 113.

In the Clinton area, “Sissy” Burge and Billy Yarbrough are running for the remainder of the justice of the peace’s term in District 3. The election was called after the resignation of longtime Justice of the Peace Dewey DeLee.

In Justice of the Peace District 2, Jimmy McCaa, of Norwood, is running against Cliff Morris, of Jackson, for the district’s constable position. The job was held by Joel Odom, who resigned to take a job with another law enforcement agency.

In the same district, Julia Adams, of Jackson, resigned as justice of the peace, but Dexter Stevens won the post when he was the only qualifier.
