Free cancer screenings offered

Lane Cancer Center and Mary Bird Perkins–Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center are offering free skin and colorectal cancer screenings from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, June 13. The screenings will be held at Lane Cancer Center, 6180 Main St., Zachary.

Mary Poppins to show Friday

Zachary's free “Movies in the Park” are planned for the HugYourPeople Community Park behind City Hall on Lee and Main streets in downtown Zachary. The summer series starts Friday with “Mary Poppins Returns,” followed by “Ralph Breaks The Internet” on July 12 and “How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” on Aug. 9.

Preshow entertainment begins at 7 p.m. Bring a camera for photos, as well as lawn chairs and blankets but no pets or ice chests. A concession stand will offer popcorn, nachos and soft drinks with proceeds going toward movie rentals.

Dance troupe to perform

The performing arts in education group "Kabuki Dancers," of Lafayette, will be performing its antibullying program "Drop The B.E.A.T (Bullying Ends After Talking)," at the East Baton Rouge branch libraries. Nearby performances include 2 p.m., Tuesday, Zachary Branch; and 10 a.m., June 24, Pride Branch.

HIV awareness event

The Baker Heritage Museum and Cultural Center, 1606 Main St., Baker, is presenting an HIV Awareness Information Community Session at 6 p.m., Thursday, June 13.

Mayor's Prayer Breakfast set

The Mayor's annual Prayer Breakfast is at 6:30 a.m. June 28 at the Baker Municipal Center, 3325 Groom Road. "Unity Builds Community" is the theme. Constable Terrica Williams is the speaker. Call (225) 778-0300 to get tickets.

Learn about herbs

The East Baton Rouge Parish Master Gardener Association’s Library Series will meet Thursday, June 20, at the Zachary Branch Library, 1900 Church St., with talks on “Beyond Basil: Year-Round Culinary Herbs” and “Hydroponics: You Don’t Have to Get Your Hands Dirty Any Longer.”

The free program is from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and is open to the public. Registration is not required.
