Youth baseball registration open

In-person and online registration for the 2017 spring youth baseball programs continues through Feb. 26. Forms can be picked up from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the Zachary Youth Park, 1650 Mount Pleasant Road. New recycling program

Beginning Thursday, Feb. 1, Waste Management will collect residential recycling within the city limits of Zachary. This service will be provided once a week per customer. Routes are based on addresses and might have changed.

All recyclable materials must be in a green recycling bin. If you need one, they are available for pickup at the City of Zachary annex, 4750 Main St. All recyclable materials can be mixed in these bins. Recycling questions can be addressed at the city's Public Works Department, (225) 654-1902.

MONDAYS: All areas west of the railroad tracks and south of La. 64, up to and including Oak Trace Subdivision.

TUESDAYS: All areas west of Oak Trace Subdivision and south of La. 64, not including the highway, except for La. 64 west of La. 964 (Old Scenic Highway). 

THURSDAYS: All areas east of the railroad tracks.

FRIDAY: All areas west of the railroad tracks, north of La. 64 and including La. 64, and La. 964 (Old Scenic Highway) north of La. 64. Does not include La. 64 west of Old Scenic Highway.

Lion's Club sale

The Zachary Lions Club is still seeking donations of items to sell at its spring garage sale March 2-3.

Club members are asking for donations of used items such as good household items, good used children’s clothes, children’s toys, furniture or other items.

The sale benefits the organization’s charitable community projects, which include things such as the summer camps on Page 3G.

Mardi Gras at the library

Between Feb. 6-12, youths ages 5 to 11 years old can visit the Zachary branch of the library to make Mardi Gras masks. The Make and Take project is available in the Children's Room from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. as supplies last. Various supplies will be available to decorate a half-paper plate Mardi Gras mask complete with a craft stick handle. No registration required.
