A cyberbullying prevention session for grades 6 through teens will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, at the Zachary Branch of the East Baton Rouge Library.
October is National Cyberbullying Prevention Month. Miss Black Louisiana USA Talented Teen 2017 will share her experiences being bullied and offer tips to prevent bullying.

Zachary residents may visit the TCC store at 5635 Main St. through Oct. 27 to nominate veterans to receive care packages in the Veterans Rock campaign.
The packages, valued at $40 each, are filled with books, puzzles, hygiene items and more. Veterans who are chosen will be notified by Nov. 3 and can pick up their care packages Nov. 6-10.
The Louisiana Highland Game and Celtic Festival will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at Zachary Youth Park. Entry is $8 for adults, $4 for those under 18 and free for youngsters under 6.
In addition to traditional Highland games, music and dancing, traditional foods will be available. Heritage displays, Scottish Highland cattle, sword demonstrations, vendors and children’s activities will be available. Not-scary trick-or-treating for children is available during Boo at the Zoo at BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo on Oct. 21-22 and Oct. 28-29. Zoo gates are open from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with grounds closing at 5 p.m.
Costumed kids can visit treat stations throughout the zoo, wander through a hay maze and explore the Enchanted Swamp. Regular zoo admission applies.
On Saturday, Nov. 11, the zoo is offering complimentary admission for active military and veterans, plus up to five guests when presenting a valid military ID. The day includes a special bald eagle chat. Valid military ID’s must be presented upon entry.
The Central High band will be one of the 27 high school marching bands from Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas to participate in the Lake Charles Toyota Gulf Coast Marching Band Championship. The McNeese State University Band will host the event Saturday, Oct. 28, in Cowboy Stadium in Lake Charles. Gates will open at 1 p.m., and the event begins at 1:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12.
A groundbreaking ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, for a new CC’s Coffee House in Zachary. John Stagg, owner and CEO of the franchise company, said the new coffeehouse, at 19560 Old Scenic Highway, is scheduled to open in early 2018.
