This week seems to be all about decorating, mailing Christmas cards, making lists, shopping and preparing for holiday festivities. In the hustle and bustle of gifts, long lines and overindulging in both food and spirits, let us not forget the true reason for the season.

Council on Aging

The East Feliciana Council on Aging, 11102 Bank St. in Clinton, continues to provide daily activities for senior citizens including transportation to East Baton Rouge Parish by the East Feliciana Public Transit system for medical appointments Monday through Friday. Jackson Vintage Village

The Jackson Vintage Village flea market is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at 2084 La. 10 behind the civic center. Inside the market, Chit Chat Cafe serves breakfast and lunch from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. Call (225) 634-1049 for information about the cafe or flea market.

Christmas at Centenary

Centenary State Historic Site in Jackson is hosting a concert at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Families are invited to the Christmas concert, which will feature local musical performances of popular and traditional holiday songs. Following the concert, a reception at the Professor’s House will feature Victorian-style refreshments and wassail.

FAWS adoption event

A special adoption event, hosted by the Feliciana Animal Welfare Society, is scheduled for 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Dec. 13 at Tractor Supply Company, 10011 Main St., Zachary.

Volunteers are needed and welcome at any time throughout the day to help set up tables, assist with animals or hand out FAWS information, spreading the word about the importance of spaying and neutering. Anyone interested in volunteering for any amount of time Saturday is invited. Those who wish to foster an animal or adopt also are invited.

Reindeer Races

The Jackson Tourism Enhancement Committee is preparing for its annual Ebenezer Scrooge Reindeer Races at 3 p.m. Saturday in downtown Jackson. These unconventional, zany races include community leaders from throughout East Feliciana.

Affordable Care Act session

Central Louisiana Area Health Education Center will host an Affordable Care Act seminar Saturday for the Clinton community, teaching residents how to access the health care system.

Charles Rabalais and Carolyn Torres will show attendees how to access marketplace health coverage by application, in person, online or over the telephone.

About the Cross

A Christmas production of “It’s About the Cross” premieres at 10:30 a.m. Sunday and 7 p.m. Monday at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, 5956 La. 19, in Ethel.

The Rev. Joseph L. Washington invites everyone to attend the all-ages program.

Live nativity

Jackson United Methodist Church will present a live Nativity scene beginning at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the museum pavilion, located behind the Audubon Regional Library, 3312 College St. in Jackson.

Adults, children and animals will portray scenes including Mary and Joseph’s trip to Bethlehem, Jesus’ birth in the stable and the visit from the three wise men.

Music and live narration accompany the free presentation.

Swearing In

East Felicina’s Betsy Jones, who won the 20th Judicial District Court judgeship, will be sworn in at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 19. The ceremony is scheduled for the second floor of the East Feliciana Courthouse in Clinton. Retiring Judge George H. Ware will preside. The oath of office will be administered by East Feliciana Clerk of Court David Dart.
