The 20th Judicial District Attorney’s Office is advising people about an increase in the use of counterfeit currency in the area.
Although this currency appears, at first glance, to be authentic, upon closer inspection, it is clearly counterfeit, the office said in a news release. The money has notices that it is for use in movies and is not legal currency.
“If you receive counterfeit currency or know an individual attempting to circulate this type of currency, please notify local law enforcement immediately. Attempting to pass counterfeit currency is a felony that carries a sentence punishable by incarceration,” the release said.
For information or to report instances of use or attempted use of the counterfeit money, contact the District Attorney's Office at (225) 683-8563, (225) 635-4612 or (225) 634-2545 or contact any local law enforcement agency.
