Hammond’s Oak Knoll women’s golf team placed first for the third time in the Northshore competition. The team defeated Beau Chene Country Club for the win.

The participating teams have played six matches since September, team member Margaret Hawkins said.

On May 6, Oak Knoll scored a total of 117.5 points over Beau Chene and Money Hill, with 111.5 points each.

The match play format is best-ball score for each two-woman team, with three teams playing for a maximum of 18 points, and half-points for split scores.

“It was good,” said Johnnie Newsham, captain for the Oak Knoll team. “We had so many injuries this year — three of our team members were out the entire season — that it really shows how hard we worked.”

Each club sends six players who have the lowest handicaps, and two people play on teams A, B and C.

Country clubs participating in the team play also included Tchefuncta in Covington and Pinewood in Slidell.

The next golf event at Oak Knoll will be the Couples Tournament on June 22. The 20th annual Bradley Four Ball Invitational is July 11-13 at Oak Knoll. The entry deadline is June 13.
