Project Rediscovering Opportunities and Attitudes towards Reading, or ROAR, as it is known by the students, is a book club partnership between Hammond Westside Montessori School students and Southeastern Louisiana University teacher candidates enrolled in Gerlinde Beckers’ adolescent literature course.

Teachers learn from establishing and facilitating the book clubs, a news release from the school said. The club also gives HWMS students opportunities to rediscover reading as a literary experience, the release said. Project ROAR recently received a Dollar General Literacy Foundation Grant to purchase Kindle eReaders to be used during Book Clubs, the release said.
