The North Oaks 13-and-under Phoenix of Tangipahoa Parish opened its soccer season with a 3-1 victory over Slidell on Sept. 13 at Chappapeela Sports Park in Hammond.
“For our first game of the season, we played very well,” assistant coach Chase Piediscalzo said. “Our players have been working hard in the practice and they played with determination and heart. It was a good day for everyone.”
Goalkeeper Coltin Royal had a clean sheet in the first half as the Phoenix went into the break with a 2-0 lead, a news release said. Nathan Hall scored on a breakaway and Gary Bartee scored on a corner kick from Nicolos Gagliano.
Both teams traded goals in the second half, with Olivia Bates scoring for the Phoenix. Patrick Labbe took over as goalkeeper.
