Livingston Bassmasters team wins fishing tourney _lowres

A 15-bass catch totaling 661 pounds was enough to win the national B.A.S.S. Costa Bassmaster High School National Tournament for the Livingston Parish Bassmasters’ team of Alex Heintze and Justin Watts.

The team competed with 134 high school teams at Kentucky Lake in Paris, Tennessee, July 22-25.

The fishermen caught their fish using Popin’ Frogs and Tube Jiggs in 2- to 3-foot deep water, said Jim Breaux, one of the directors with the Junior Southwest Bassmasters Fishing Club of Denham Springs.

The other Livingston parish team of Dillon King and Kody Kelly caught five bass for a 47th-place finish.

Braden Blanchard and Cade Fortenberry, of St. Amant High School, came in second place with a total 15-bass catch weighing 511 pounds.
