A celebration of comics

In honor of Free Comic Book Day on Saturday, Livingston Parish Library will hold its second annual Comic Con at the Main Branch in Livingston from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Dress as your favorite character or come in to design your own superhero for the costume contest; the winner will receive a gift card from Cavalier House Books. There will be crafts, games and other activities.

Free comic books will be distributed by Southeast Cards and Comics and Comic Café while supplies last.

Teen Anime Club

Previews of anime, manga, snacks, crafts, fan art, fan fiction and more are in store when the Teen Anime Club for ages 12 to 18 meets at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the South Branch of Livingston Parish Library.

Free, private, one-on-one business consulting for small business owners or those who are interested in starting one is available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Main Branch of Livingston Parish Library.

Counseling is sponsored by the Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southeastern Louisiana University. Topics include business plans, advertising plans, inventory control, financial projections, cost analysis and more.

Representatives from the Baton Rouge Bar Association will offer free, one-on-one legal advice from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. May 12 at the Denham Springs-Walker Branch of Livingston Parish Library.

Indulge your artistic side

Children and adults are invited to participate in an abstract paper collage class presented by the Arts Council of Livingston Parish, in which participants will create an abstract paper collage in the manner of Matisse.

Both classes will be from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. May 21 at 133 Hummell St. in Denham Springs. All materials will be provided. Registration is required.

Memorial Day ceremony

Denham Springs VFW Post 7017 will hold a Memorial Day ceremony at 10 a.m. May 30 at the mausoleum section of Evergreen Memorial Park, located off South Range Avenue in Denham Springs. The public is welcome to attend.
