Sixth-grade students in Angela Bradford and Alanna Langla’s classes at Hammond Westside Montessori last month studied voting rights and created posters about why it’s important to vote. Leading up to Election Day, they learned about citizenship, the rights and responsibilities of citizens, including a class election for student government positions, identified the steps required to register to vote, explored the various ways to register to vote, learned about the job duties of elected positions, and discovered why every vote counts.
