Ballet plans ‘Nutcracker’ open auditions _lowres

Hammond Ballet Company, a nonprofit dance organization, will hold open auditions for its 19th season performance of “The Nutcracker,” a news release said.

Auditions will be held Sept. 19 at A Touch of Class Performing Arts studio, 135 S. Sixth St. in Ponchatoula. Registration begins 30 minutes prior to the audition and includes a $15 cash fee. Auditions begin at begin at 11 a.m. for ages 4 to 7, noon for ages 8 to 11 and 2 p.m. for ages 12 and older. Brief information meetings will be held for parents while their child is in class.

Girls should wear leotards, tights and ballet shoes and have hair in a bun. Characters and acting roles are available for boys. Dancers ages 8 to 11 and 12 and older may audition to become company members. For more information, call Janet Neyrey at (985) 429-1654, email or visit
