With school out because of area flooding, the staff of Gray's Creek Elementary School in Denham Springs decided to pop in on some of their students.

By "pop in," we mean they decided to have a mini-parade.

Led by "grand marshal" and Principal Melissa Dougherty, the "Swamp Tour" -- named in honor of the school's gator mascot -- traveled through area neighborhoods on Tuesday afternoon.

Staff members tossing toys, candy and other goodies -- some including notes to the students -- were greeted by waves and lots of smiles.

When Livingston Parish students return to school on Sept. 12, many will be at a new campus and some students going to their usual schools will have different start and end times to their school day.
