The West Monroe High School's Rebel Band partnered with the AT&T Pioneers of Louisiana to present a $1,000 check to the Denham Springs High School Band on Nov. 17.
The Pioneers are a group of AT&T employees focused on giving back to the community. After the August floods, the group established a fund to assist those affected by the disaster.
Tara Beekman, affiliated both with AT&T Pioneers and WMHS, said, “This is an awesome opportunity for AT&T Pioneers and West Monroe High School to help out our brothers in south Louisiana.”
Beekman presented the check to DSHS band director Andrew Hunter at the band’s temporary home at Live Oak High School in Watson.
WMHS band director, Robert Freeman, was well aware of the challenges facing Denham Springs after the flood. To add a special touch and let the DSHS band know they were thinking of them, the WMHS Rebel band members all signed the back of the check.
