Drafting regulations that would allow microbreweries to locate in Denham Springs is one of the top issues on the city council's agenda for Tuesday night.
The Denham Springs City Council will also consider a proposal to allow residents to set off fireworks within city limits on certain holidays, said Mayor Gerard Landry.
Landry said the microbrewery issue came up after the owner of a small operation expressed interest in moving to the city. The city does not have rules to govern how and where it could operate.
"Microbreweries are the big rage across the country," Landry said in an interview. "It's probably time for us to address it and be microbrewery friendly."
Landry said the the fireworks question arose at the request of a fireworks business in the city. People are currently prohibited from setting them off within city limits.
"I think what they're asking for is something along the lines of the night of July 4 and New Year's Eve, not a wholesale repeal, but on the two holidays," the mayor said.
Landry said he expects both issues will be discussed Tuesday and set for a public hearing at a later date.
