Support the Children's Choir
The Livingston Parish Children's Choir is holding a garage sale from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at New Covenant Church, 215 Florida Ave., Denham Springs.
The group also will accept donations for the sale from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, at the site. They will not be accepting adult clothing.
Cavalier House Books, 100 N. Range Ave., Denham Springs, will host author Julie Cantrell for an event celebrating her fourth novel "Perennials" from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18. Cantrell is "returning to my home parish," she said, and will be signing all four novels. The story of "Perennials" is about two estranged sisters reuniting for their parents’ 50th anniversary. They discover unexpected lessons of hope and healing amid the flowers of their mother’s perennial garden.
The VFW Travelers are heading to Washington, D.C., Sept. 19-27.
The visit includes a guided tour to the World War II Memorial, Capitol Hill, Embassy Row, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Smithsonian, the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial and more. The group also will visit the new Museum of the Bible.
Chicken and raffle
The Order of Eastern Star Denham Springs Masonic Lodge 297 will hold a chicken dinner fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 18 at the lodge, 313 Benton St. Tickets are $8 each. The event benefits the lodge flood restoration.
Also, the Masons of Lodge 297 are raffling an Elvis Presley Tribute Revolver, one of 500 made, and a 12-gauge shotgun. Tickets are $10 each. Drawing is Dec. 15. First ticket drawn gets choice of weapon. Funds also are for the restoration fund.

The Pilot Club of Denham Springs is hosting the second annual Pound the Pavement 5K and 1-mile family run on Nov. 18.
