Learn to start a small business
The Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southeastern Louisiana University and Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce will hold a free seminar March 23 in Denham Springs designed to help individuals interested in starting a business.
“Starting and Financing Your Business Idea” will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at the chamber office, 248 Veterans Blvd., Denham Springs. Topics include writing a business plan, sources of funds for startup and expansion, small business resources and required licenses. Find a pet
Rescue Rehome Repeat of South Louisiana will hold a pet adoption event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Petsmart on Millerville Road in Baton Rouge right off Interstate 12. Adoption screening applications are required.
April artists and butterflies
The Arts Council of Livingston Parish announced its “Established and Emerging Artist” exhibit will run April 4 through May 26. It will include the council's juried artist as well as artwork from eight seniors in the Art 3 Class at Denham Springs High School. A reception, with light refreshments and the artists present, will be held 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 14.
Also, the council invites children ages 8-12 to learn printmaking and pastel techniques while making pastel butterflies with instructor Cyndie Perilloux. The class will be 10:30 a.m. to noon April 7 at the gallery, 133 Hummell St., Denham Springs. Prepayment for the class is required to register. The fee is $10. All supplies are included. The class can get messy so please dress accordingly. No outside food or drink should be brought in.
Spring Fling for seniors
The Livingston Council on Aging will host a Spring Fling dance for senior citizens 60-plus at the Springfield meal site, 27265 La. 42, Springfield, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, April 20. Music provided by Ernie Breaux and his band, Poo-yai. Dinner and refreshments will be served. Admission is $5 a person.
Remember, people planning to participate in the Louisiana Hunter Education Field Day on March 24 at Doyle High School, 20480 Circle Drive, Livingston, must take the home study portion online first and have a printed voucher to present to the instructor. Register at www.register-ed.com/programs/louisiana/agency:9?. The state's hunting class is required for all hunters born on or after Sept. 1, 1969.
