Mitzi Verberne, left, winner of the annual VFC Literacy Contest, and TVFC President Sandra Mader.

Tangipahoa Volunteer for Family and Community member Mitzi Verberne was recently awarded first place in the Statewide VFC Literacy Contest at the annual Volunteer Luncheon at the Hammond Research Station.

Verberne is a member of the Wednesday VFC chapter.

She enjoys volunteering with her group and writes stories reminiscing about her early days living in Tangipahoa Parish with her growing family on their dairy farm. This is the first year her entry has been recognized with a first-place distinction.

Each year, VFC, a statewide volunteer organization associated with the LSU Extension Office, selects one entry from across the state for this distinction.
