Tree lighting reset
The Kiwanis "Lighting of the Christmas Tree" that was scheduled for Dec. 7 will take place at 6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 14, at the Denham Spring train station.
Join the Denham Springs High School bands, led by Director Andrew Hunter and Assistant Director Carlye Latas, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, for the annual winter concert. The event will be held in Hornsby Gym at the high school campus, 1000 N. Range Ave.
The combined concert and symphonic bands will open the evening’s performance followed by the school’s wind ensemble with special guests.
The free event will feature holiday music and is open to the public.
Christmas on the Bayou
The Amite River Boat parade is set to sail at 5 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 16. Kade Scivicque, player in the Atlanta Braves system and former LSU baseball player, will be grand marshal. Registration is $25 a boat from 8 a.m. to noon Dec. 16 at Manny's Bar. Lineup is at 4:30 p.m. in the water by Val's old dock. First stop is Red's Restaurant, last stop is Manny's Bar, which will serve food. Santa will hand out stockings to children at each stop. Caroling in the village
Caroling continues in the Antique Village on Dec. 16 and 23. Groups will sing at 10 stops along Range Avenue at 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Contact Al Bye, (225) 931-0704 or email@example.com, to sign up. Any size group is welcome.
Drama class for kids
The Arts Council of Livingston Parish will host an Intro to Drama/Theater Class with instructor Fab Reno from 10 a.m. to noon, Friday, Dec. 22, at 133 Hummell St., Denham Springs. The class is for children ages 8–15, and the fee is $25. This is a great opportunity to get a couple hours of last minute Christmas shopping done without the kids. Prepayment is required to register. The Historic Carter House Society will host an Open House — Plantation Style from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, at Carter House, 30325 Carter Cemetery Road, Springfield. Tickets will be sold at the door and cost $5 for adults or $10 per family. Children under 12 members of the society get in free. Purchased tickets go into a drawing for a door prize. The Arts Council of Livingston Parish will host the Louisiana Photographic Society for an exhibit Jan. 10 through Feb. 24. The gallery, 133 Hummell St., Denham Springs, is open Wednesdays to Fridays 10 a.m. to noon and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A second Saturday reception will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Jan. 13.
