Author and scientist Joan Borysenko brings her combination of science and spirituality to Baton Rouge this week.
Borysenko is a Harvard-trained cell biologist, psychologist and a world-renowned expert in the mind/body connection and the author of 17 books, according to a news release.
She will present a free cancer survivors’ program, “Cancer as a Healing Journey: Project HOPE,” from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Friday at The Overlook: Mary Bird Perkins-Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center. Breakfast treats will be available at 10 a.m. Her program includes practical tools to turn a cancer diagnosis into an opportunity and ways to build resilience to perk up the immune system and mood.
Borysenko also will present a full weekend spiritual retreat, “An Evolutionary Narrative: Creating Authentic Power Through Story,” at The Red Shoes, 2303 Government St. Retreat hours are 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday. Cost is $25 for Friday only or $165 for the full retreat.
The retreat encourages participants to create a life narrative of meaning and purpose that encourages each person’s inner light to shine, a news release said.
