The Junior Beta team from The Runnels School placed first in the Tower of Power competition at the Junior Beta State Convention held Feb. 22-23 at the Cajundome in Lafayette.
It was the second year in a row Runnels won the event.
The Tower of Power contest challenges participating clubs to build the tallest possible structure out of drinking straws and tape that is capable of supporting a tennis ball for one minute without collapsing, according to a news release. The Runnels team of Omid Boushehri, Nick D'Gerolamo, Dawson Latona, Brendan LeBlanc and Robby Harrison won with a 9-foot-7-inch tower.
The team advances to the National Junior Beta Convention in June in Savannah, Georgia.
