A McKinley High School student's artwork is headed to compete in an international contest.
The Baton Rouge Metropolitan Lions Club held it annual Peace Poster contest at McKinley School on Oct. 27.
McKinley was chosen because it has "one of the most talented art programs in the state," a news release from the club stated.
The contest encourages youth age 11-13 to think about peace and express through art what peace meant to them.
Thirty-five students took part. Erynn Alexis Cormier's painting won first place at the school and won Best in District on Oct. 28 during a Lions Club district competition in Mandeville. She won Best Peace Poster on Nov. 12 during a state competition Lafayette.
Her poster is entered in the Lions Clubs International Peace Poster Competition where she will compete against entries from around the country and more than 200 nations.
