The National Society of High School Scholars announced last month that St. Joseph’s Academy student Elizabeth Kasongo would become one of its newest scholars.

Kasongo joins the nearly one million members thanks to her commitment to outstanding leadership, scholarship and community, a news release said.

“On behalf of NSHSS, I am honored to recognize the hard work, sacrifice and commitment that Elizabeth has demonstrated,” said founder and chairman Claes Nobel in a news release. “Elizabeth is now a member of a unique community of scholars — a community that represents our very best hope for the future.”

NSHSS President James W. Lewis added that the group aims to help students like Kasongo build on their academic successes and enhance their skills and desires to have a positive impact on the global community.

Membership into the NSHSS gives Kasongo several benefits, including scholarship opportunities, academic competitions, members-only resources and publicity honors among others.

The NSHSS formed in 2002 and has since spread to more than 160 countries.
