St. Michael the Archangel High School alumna and Baton Rouge native Lacey Sanchez will compete Saturday for the Miss America crown.

Sanchez entered the Miss Lafayette contest on a dare by her sorority sisters and won the competition to qualify for the Miss Louisiana pageant.

“She had never done anything like this in her life,” said her mom, Paula Sanchez. “It’s not like she was a pageant kid. She has always been an athlete. She even needed help with her makeup and picking out her dress just to enter Miss Lafayette.”

Lacey Sanchez attended St. Michael High School and graduated in 2008. She went on to LSU and was a pole-vaulter for the track team. She graduated from LSU with a degree in English in 2013.
