Tennis tourney

Thursday is the deadline to register for BREC’s 10-and-under tennis tournament, which will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at Highland Road Park Tennis Center.

The tournament is a singles round robin format with boys and girls divisions. Ages 8 and younger will play on a 36-foot court with 23-inch racket, while ages 10 and younger will play on a 60-foot court with 25-inch racket. There will be free snacks and awards for players.

Library movie

Jones Creek Regional Branch Library's movie matinee this weekend is "The Lego Batman Movie" (PG).

Times are 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Light refreshments will be provided.

Libraries closed

All East Baton Rouge Parish Library locations will be closed Saturday in observance of Veterans Day. Regular hours will resume Sunday.

Free car washes

Benny’s Car Wash is providing free Benny’s Best car washes to veterans and current military service members from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at all Baton Rouge area locations, rain or shine.

Washes include a wheel clean, underbody rinse, spot-free rinse, protect and shine, wheel deal, foam blast and Luminara hand wax.

The washes are offered under the Grace for Vets FREE Wash Program, founded by Mike Mountz, former owner of Cloister Was & Lube in Ephrata, Pennsylvania, as a way to honor veterans.

Diabetes forum and expo

Humana and Healthy BR are sponsoring a free Diabetes Forum and Expo from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Pennington Biomedical Research Center Auditorium, 6400 Perkins Road.

The public is invited to participate in free health screenings, a diabetes forum with medical specialists, “walk with a doc” and healthy cooking demonstrations, all aimed toward educating the community about Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes and living a healthier lifestyle.

Poetry reading

Listen to readings from LaJoanoune M. Lathan’s book of poetry, “Inspirations from the Holy Spirit,” from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Jones Creek Regional Branch Library. Signed copies of the book will be available for purchase.

Craft time

Adults can enjoy an evening of crafts from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Jones Creek Regional Branch Library. Materials will be provided.

From Monday through Nov. 22, Fairwood Branch Library’s Children’s Room invites kids to stop by and write what they are thankful for on a fall leaf cutout, then add the leaf to the big tree on the wall.

Memory storage

A craft time for teens at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Fairwood Branch Library features a magnetic chalkboard with decorated clothespin magnets.

Thanksgiving storycraft

Turkeys are everywhere during Fairwood Branch Library’s story and craft session for ages 3 to 7 at 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays.

Listen to “Turkey Trouble” by Wendi Silvano and “Thanks for Thanksgiving” by Julie Markes, then make a turkey craft to take home.

Mobility clinic

Join Dr. Matthew Shelly, of Performance Chiropractic & Health Clinic in Prairieville, at Jones Creek Regional Branch Library for a mobility clinic from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 16.

The clinic includes stretching and basic exercise, maintaining mobility and range of motion, recovery techniques, injury prevention and posture analysis. Participants should wear comfortable clothes and shoes.
