Two West Feliciana High School students were named Commended Scholars by the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Seniors Brock Ancona and Anna Kate Holmes were presented with a Letter of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corp. These two students were among the top 50,000 high scorers nationwide out of 1.5 million students who entered the 2021 competition by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

A National Merit spokesperson said, “Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success. These students represent a valuable national resources; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope this recognition will help broaden their education opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success."

Ancona is the son of Bobbie and Roy Ancona. He has taken numerous Dual Enrollment and Advanced Placement classes to prepare for his post-secondary education.

Holmes is the daughter of Janice Holmes and Kenneth Holmes. Because of Anna Kate’s achievements on Advance Placement exams, College Board has recognized her as an AP Scholar with Honor.
