West Feliciana High School juniors Jazzy McQuirter and Aydon Messer enact unregulated meat-packing in Max Hawkins' U.S. history class.

At West Feliciana High School, students in Max Hawkins' U.S. History class have been learning about government consumer-protection regulations and the Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906.

One of the impetuses behind the act was the 1906 publication of Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle" with its descriptions of working conditions in the meat industry.
