The Baton Rouge Bicycle Club holds weekly rides in and around Baton Rouge for bike riders of all ages and skill levels.
On Sept. 30, it held a Fall in the Felicianas charity bike ride at the West Feliciana Sports Park, with 155 cyclists of many skill levels riding through the area's tree-lined country roads.
Profits from this ride, totaling $2,200, were donated by the club to the West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office Kid’s Christmas Fund.
Sheriff J. Austin Daniel established Kid’s Christmas about 17 years ago when he first took office.
“Kid’s Christmas gives less fortunate children the opportunity to have gifts at Christmastime," Daniel said. "Each child that attends gets to pick out one toy from our toy shop, and they are all entered in the drawing to win one of the many donated bicycles we have to give away. The joy we see on these their faces is worth all the hard work we put into this event.
“We are beyond blessed this year to receive this donation from the Baton Rouge Bike Club. This will truly help us make sure we have what we need to make this event a great success for the children.”
Kid’s Christmas will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9. Santa makes his annual appearance at noon. For information about Kids’ Christmas, contact Barbara at (225) 784-3109.
