The Blood Center and West Feliciana Parish Hospital are hosting the first West Feliciana Parish for Battle of the Badges on April 21-22.

Battle of the Badges encourages blood donors to give for Team Blue or Team Red in a competition where results positively affect the community blood supply. In addition to a trophy and bragging rights for police or firefighters, all donors receive an event T-shirt and donations are screened for COVID-19 antibodies.

"As the sole provider of blood and blood components to West Feliciana Hospital, we wanted to work with The Blood Center to create an event that involved our schools, government and first responders to raise awareness for the ongoing need for blood," said West Feliciana Hospital CEO Lee Chastant. "The Battle of the Badges blood drive sounded like a great idea."

The blood drives are from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, at West Feliciana Middle School gym; and from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 22, at St. Francisville Town Hall.

Donors need to wear a mask, be in good health, weight at least 110 pounds, and 17 years of age (or 16 with a parent’s consent). Donors should eat a good meal before donating and visit thebloodcenter.org the day of donation to begin the registration screening to accelerate the donation process. Precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 are being taken.

COVID-19 antibody results are available within three to five days after donation.

People who would like to schedule a blood drive with their business, school, community or religious organization, can call Bridget Catlett Landry at (225) 246-7144 or visit thebloodcenter.org. Individual donors may visit the website to find donation locations.
