Those who appreciate literature and art are invited to attend the July 18 membership meeting of A Celebration of Literature and Art, Inc., an area nonprofit, at the West Feliciana Parish Library, General Meeting Room, 5114 Burnett Road, St. Francisville.
West Feliciana Parish has always been a haven for the arts and literature, and CLA works to provide even more literary and artistic events to benefit not only in West Feliciana but the surrounding parishes as well, said Community Events Coordinator Darlene Reaves, of CLA.
Each year, the organization sponsors the Writers and Readers Symposium at Hemingbough and a writers workshop at Butler Greenwood Plantation, as well as monthly literary and artistic events that are free for the community.
Beginning at 6 p.m., a meet-and-greet session will feature light refreshments followed by the meeting, which will include nominations for positions on the CLA board or chairmen of committees.
Attendees will be able to nominate themselves or others, and sign-up sheets will be available for anyone who would like to volunteer for a committee. Membership in A Celebration of Literature and Art extends until next July.
At 7 p.m., following the meeting, New Orleans singer and musician Betsy McGovern will entertain with music from her Irish repertoire.
McGovern’s voice has earned praise from around the globe and from her favorite critic, Paul McCartney, who happened by one night while she was singing at O’Flaherty’s Irish Pub in New Orleans, Reaves said.
“We invite people of like literary and artistic minds to help celebrate the beauty of literature and art,” said Reaves.
