The St. Francisville Chamber of Commerce has announced the recipients of $3,000 in Lloyd L. Lindsey Jr. Memorial Scholarships.

The five West Feliciana High School graduates receiving $600 each are: Ashton Gibbon, Mary Louviere, Ngozi Nwabueze, Brandon Stewart and John Willis Jr.

The students were recognized for their strong academic records, school participation, work history, community involvement and career goals, according to chamber officials.

Funding for the scholarships comes from the chamber’s Scholarship Trust Fund and a gift from Marsha Lindsey.

Food addicts find support

Food Addicts Anonymous, a weekly support group providing fellowship for men and women willing to recover from the disease of food addiction, meets 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. every Thursday in June in the West Wing Conference Room at Lane Regional Medical Center, 6300 Main St., in Zachary.

The group also meets from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. every Tuesday in June at the West Feliciana Parish Library, Room B, 5114 Burnett Road, in St. Francisville.

A 12-step program, Food Addicts Anonymous believes food addiction is a biochemical disorder that occurs at a cellular level and therefore cannot be cured by willpower or therapy alone.

FAA is self-supporting. There are no dues or fees required for membership, only a desire to stop eating addictive foods. FAA is not affiliated with any diet or weight-loss programs, treatment facilities or religious organizations. For information, call Velma at (225) 715-9268 or simply attend one of the meetings.

Garden Tour Fridays

Visitors to Rosedown Plantation, a state historic site, are invited to join manager and horticulturist Patricia Aleshire as she leads her monthly stroll through Rosedown’s historic gardens.

The Garden Tour Fridays program provides garden enthusiasts with a detailed look at selected portions of one of the finest early 19th-century gardens.

On the first Friday of each month, Aleshire will guide visitors through Rosedown’s gardens, pointing out significant heirloom varieties of plantings and focusing on historic and modern cultivation methods and care.

The Garden Tour Fridays program will begin at 10 a.m. June 5 at the site office, 12501 La. 10, in St. Francisville.

Wine tasting at Wyoming

A summer fundraiser for the St. Francisville Chamber of Commerce will be held in the form of a wine tasting from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. June 13 at Wyoming Plantation in St. Francisville.

Tickets are $60 for a team of two to three people.

Each team must bring three bottles of wine — one bottle will go into a group of wines designated to become a prize, while the other bottles will be entered into the tasting.

Ballots will be cast for the best and worst wines, and the winner will go home with the group of prize wines.

Sponsorship packages are still available. For information or tickets, call any St. Francisville Chamber board member, the Chamber office at (225) 721-0022 or email

The Day the War Stopped

From June 12-14, St. Francisville presents its annual remembrance of The Day the War Stopped festival.

This festival commemorates a time in history when Civil War hostilities between the Union and the Confederacy were set aside to allow southern Masons to hold a burial service in West Feliciana Parish for Northern Mason and Union Cmdr. John Hart.

Throughout the weekend, activities include graveside histories, historical presentations and talks, exhibits, vintage music concerts and dancers, a re-enactment of Hart’s burial and more.

Festival locations include Grace Episcopal Church, the Masonic Lodge, Oakley and Rosedown plantations.
