The 29th annual False River Fourth of July Boat Parade will be at 1 p.m. July 4.

This year’s theme is “Swamp People.”

Judging of decorated piers is scheduled for 11 a.m. along the parade route.

The judging of decorated watercraft and party barges begins at noon at Marc Barker’s two-story, octagonal pier on the south, island side of False River near the Pointe Placid Condos in Jarreau.

Watercraft operators are asked to circle in front of Barker’s pier during judging.

Sunday in the Park’

The public is invited to join New Roads Mayor Robert Myer in a game of basketball and other events from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Douglas City Park as part of the city’s “Sunday in the Park” event.

The city is also hosting “Outdoor Movie Night” at 8 p.m. Friday in the city lot across from City Hall. People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to this free event.

Songs and magic

The West Baton Rouge Parish Library is hosting two performances of “Songs Across the Seas” on Wednesday with singer and songwriter Johnette Downing.

Downing will perform songs, chants and dances from all over the world.

The 10 a.m. performance will be at the Port Allen Community Center. The 1 p.m. show will be at the Addis Community Center.

Children 5 years of age and up are invited to attend “Magic for Beginning Magicians” for free with instructor Chris C. Miller at 10 a.m. Monday at the Port Allen Community Center or at 1 p.m. Monday at the Addis Community Center.

The first show will be at 10 a.m. at the Port Allen Community Center. The second show will be at 1 p.m. at the Addis Community Center.

The future of WBR

The public is invited to an open house from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the West Baton Rouge Community Center to review a draft of the parish’s comprehensive plan.

PlanWEST 2020 will guide future decisions on physical development, transportation, land use, open space, natural resources and economic development in West Baton Rouge Parish.

The center is at 749 N. Jefferson St., Port Allen.

Portraits in Gray

Civil War buffs and area residents are invited to check out “Portraits in Gray,” a Civil War photography exhibit, through July 3 at the West Baton Rouge Museum.
