Second arrest made in West Baton Rouge mobile home invasion leading to assailant's death _lowres

The West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office on Monday made the second arrest in a home invasion and armed robbery that resulted in one of the assailants being fatally shot by the homeowner. Darius Bell, 3970 Malada Bend Road, Port Allen, was booked into the parish jail Monday on one count of principal to armed robbery. He is accused of being one of three men who broke into a mobile home at a trailer park off La. 415 Thursday night during severe storms, Col. Richie Johnson said.

The homeowner, who authorities have yet to identify, shot and killed one of Bell’s alleged accomplices, 32-year-old Kelly Cline, also from Port Allen.

Bell, 17, is the second arrest the Sheriff’s Office has made in the incident. On Friday, Johnson reported Daquan Washington, 24, 2090 Lobdell Highway, No. 22, Port Allen, was booked on counts of being a principal to home invasion and to armed robbery. Authorities said he lived in the same trailer park as the homeowner. “There could be additional charges,” Johnson said Monday following Bell’s arrest. “He’s been interviewed by deputies now. We think this is it. He was the other person we were looking for.”

In an earlier story, Johnson said the homeowner shot Cline while he, Cline and the others were outside the mobile home after the break-in but while the robbery was still in progress. Washington and Bell managed to flee the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash, he said.

Johnson justified the shooting as self-defense and said Monday no charges will be filed against the shooter.
