PLAQUEMINE — A 31-year-old Plaquemine man was booked Sunday on a count of vehicular homicide on allegations he killed a pedestrian while driving under the influence, State Police reported Monday.

Trooper 1st Class Bryan Lee said John Williams, a 51-year-old Plaquemine man, was pronounced dead at the scene from fatal injuries he sustained when he was struck around 8 p.m Sunday by Joseph Tatney and another vehicle on La. 1, south of La. 75 in Iberville Parish.

Tatney, who was driving a 2001 Dodge Ram, hit Williams as he was traveling southbound on La. 1. Williams was walking across the street when he was hit, Lee reported. The impact tossed his body into the inside lane of the thoroughfare where he was hit by a second vehicle that was traveling behind Tatney.

An investigation by State Police determined that Tatney was under the influence at the time of the crash, but Lee did not specify whether it was drugs or alcohol.

Tatney was arrested and booked into the Iberville Parish Jail.
