A 9-year-old juvenile was killed and six people were taken to the hospital in a crash Monday involving two SUVs, said Trooper 1st Class Bryan Lee, a State Police spokesman.
The juvenile who was killed, Asha Cooper, had been ejected from one of the vehicles, Lee said.
The two SUVs were southbound on La. 75 near Jack Miller Landing in Iberville Parish shortly before 2 p.m. when the first one attempted a left turn, Lee said.
Following behind was a red Honda Element that attempted to pass in a no-passing zone, Lee said, and was hit by the first SUV and overturned.
There were seven juveniles and two adults in the Honda, Lee said. The driver — Tommie Killough, 29, of Livonia — faces counts of negligent homicide, multiple child restraint violations, passing in a no passing zone, and driving under suspension.
