A school bus ferrying children home Friday morning veered off a road into a ditch in Zachary, said that city's police chief, David McDavid.
No one was injured in the accident, which happened around 8:30 a.m. on Old Scenic Highway at La. 964, he said. The bus occupants have all been transported to safety, he said.
The driver of the Zachary school system bus likely didn't see a turn due to high floodwaters and ended up in a ditch, but didn't crash into other vehicles, McDavid said.
Torrential rains have caused flooding across the Baton Rouge area.
McDavid said water on some streets is three to four feet deep, and Main Street is submerged under about two feet of water.
A curfew is in effect in Zachary until further notice, with officials asking people to stay home if possible, McDavid said.
