BREC will offer summer camp registration for East Baton Rouge Parish residents from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday and at 3:30 p.m. March 7 for out-of-parish residents.
Parents or guardians may register in person at the facility of their choice or online for all locations this summer.
The parish parks commission offers athletic camps; an extreme sports skate camp and BMX camp; exclusive recreation camps for children with mental and developmental disabilities; conservation camps; outdoor adventure camps; recreation camps; and tennis camps this summer.
Dates, times, ages and fees vary per camp.
BREC also offers special-interest camps at the Baton Rouge Gallery, Baton Rouge Zoo, Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center, Farr Park Equestrian Center, Highland Road Park Observatory, Independence Park Theatre and Magnolia Mound Plantation.
A new camp specifically designed for teens called “Summer in the City” is slated for June 6-10 at City-Brooks Community Park in Baton Rouge. At BREC’s only teen summer camp, participants can indulge in art projects, adventures outdoors, tennis and golf lessons, kayaking, paddleboarding, outdoor survival skills and more.
“I’m pleased that in addition to the wide variety of camps residents have come to expect from BREC, our team continues to add new summer adventures for youth during a time when it is vital that we provide active, safe and structured activities,” BREC Superintendent Carolyn McKnight said. “For example, we know parents have a hard time with teenagers who are too old for most camps and too young to work. This year, we’ve expanded the opportunity for teenagers to participate in our Counselor in Training program.”
Residents can visit the site where they want to attend camp and register in person. Camp sites or parks will be open for walk-in registrants until spaces are filled. Payment can be made using cash, check, money order, or Visa, MasterCard or Discover credit or debit cards.
For those who wish to register online, East Baton Rouge Parish residents can register at all locations through WebTrac, BREC’s online registration system, at webtrac.brec.org. Full payment is required at time of registration, and no deposits or financial assistance is available.
BREC recommends parents or guardians make a login request at brec.org/webtrac at least two days prior to registration. The system will ask registrants to set up a household on Webtrac, an easy process that must be completed 48 hours before Saturday.
To complete successful online registration, parents who have registered online before should know their user ID and password ahead of time. If the information has been forgotten, select the “Having Trouble” link, then “Forgot Password” and send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
