Martin Luther King Jr. programs planned
The annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day March and program, hosted by the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Zachary Committee, will be Monday.
In commemoration of the life and legacy of the late King, the march will begin at 6 p.m. from Zachary City Hall, 4700 Main St., and will conclude at the New Pilgrim Baptist Church, 4277 Old Weis Road, Zachary. Following the march will be the program. This year's speaker will be state Sen. Regina Ashford Barrow, of District 15. The theme for 2020 is "A Journey Traveled by Many, A Dream Living in All."
For those who participate in the march, transportation will be provided from the church back to Zachary City Hall.
The Martin Luther King Day Program hosted by the City of Baker’s Youth in Action is at 10 a.m. Monday at Baker Municipal Center, 3325 Groom Road. The theme is "Fulfillment of the Dream."
The Peace Walk and Celebration will start at 10 a.m., Jan. 15.
Prenatal and newborn class set
Lane Regional Medical Center will offer a free prenatal and newborn baby care class at 10 a.m. Jan. 25, in the hospital’s Staff Development Classroom.
“The Pregnancy Workshop” is an overview of what to expect during pregnancy and delivery for soon-to-be moms. “Baby Care Basics” covers everything new moms, dads and grandparents need to know to care for newborns in the first weeks of life. A tour of Baby Lane (the Labor & Delivery unit) is included.

Leadership North looking for class members
Leadership North 2020 is an annual leadership development program for the north Baton Rouge region. The Zachary Chamber of Commerce hosts the program along with other groups. Participation is open to people living or working in Baton Rouge, Zachary, Central, Baker, Pointe Coupee, and East and West Feliciana parishes.

Valentines for soldiers
The Zachary Farmers Market attendees will have the opportunity to color, make and decorate Valentines to send to members of the U.S. military during the Saturday market. All ages are encouraged to participate in the event led by the Baton Rouge Soldier Outreach Program.
The group also seeks nonperishable items for care packages. Suggested items include Valentine candy and snack cakes, protein bars, granola bars, jerky, peanuts, pretzels, raisins, trail mix, pudding, ramen noodles, cheese crackers, peanut butter crackers, dried fruit, gum, powdered drink mixes, decks of cards and miniature game.
Time to clean house
From 9 a.m. to noon, Feb. 8, St. Vincent de Paul truck will be at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church's new parking lot, 4826 Main St., Zachary, to accept donations.
Items accepted include gently used clothing, baby clothes and items, coats, sheets, towels, bedspreads, working small appliances, lamps, pots, pans, dishes and furniture. Items except furniture need to be in plastic bags or boxes. No electronics, mattresses or box springs accepted. Visit sjb-ola.org/truck.
