In Youth Basketball of America play, the Stateline Raiders are a ninth-grade team based in St. Francisville with players from Livonia, West Feliciana Parish and Zachary.
The Raiders finished first in the National Qualifier tournament in Denham Springs on May 22-24 by defeating two 10th-grade teams — the Baton Rouge Hoyas (70-45) and the North Shore Titans (57-55) — before beating another ninth-grade squad, Team DNA, 62-31 for the championship.
West Feliciana guard Chad Tillery led the team in scoring with 47 points while Zachary’s Calvin Adams added 41 points and seven assists.
West Feliciana’s Davon Harris followed with 34 points, nine assists and 13 steals, and Livonia forward Jaquan Battley pulled down a team-high 23 rebounds, according to coach Dedric Williams.
The Stateline Raiders also went 3-2 to finish second in the Super Regionals on May 15-17 in Biloxi, Mississippi.
In that tournament, the team defeated the Louisiana Ambassadors 61-54, Ispotup 48-43 and the Ambassadors again 58-42 in the semifinals.
The Raiders’ only two losses came in their first game of the tournament and in the title game. The losses were against the Mobile Hurricanes and Port City Rain, two teams from Alabama.
Adams was the team’s top scorer with 63 points followed by Harris, who had 58 points, 16 assists and 15 steals.
Harris’ high school teammate Tillery added 45 points as did Zachary forward Jadarion Davis, who finished with 45 points and 26 rebounds.
Battley had a team-high seven blocks.
